Family Voices CO assists vulnerable families in Colorado to navigate today’s complex healthcare and service systems, understanding their rights and services available to them

Family Voices CO is working on its organizational infrastructure and capacity building, as it has been reinstated as an affiliate of the national Family Voices organization.
Position Description
$35,000-42,000 salary range, commensurate with experience. Part-time is available upon request.
The Family Navigator, a full-time virtual position in the Denver Metro area, will work to assist families with children and youth with special healthcare needs within Colorado by providing direct assistance and education to families; working within the systems to advocate for the needs of families; working to develop and change policies as needed within the local, state, and national systems; and working with legislators to advocate for the needs of their constituents with children and youth with special healthcare needs . Training and mentoring in the above tasks will be provided as needed. The Executive Director and Family Navigator Team will meet at least every two weeks.
Primary Responsibilities
The Family Navigator will work with the FVCO team to support the needs of children and youth with special healthcare needs.
Duties will include:

Educating and providing resources to families who reach out to FVCO for assistance
-
Document all assistance provided as necessitated by grants and the FVCO board
-
Maintain HIPAA compliance
-
Sit on state committees to provide a voice for children and youth with special healthcare needs
-
Collaborate with other organizations serving children and youth with special healthcare needs
-
Create education materials for consumers on Medicaid systems, CCBs, IDD, and other needed resources as questions arise
-
Initiate marketing and outreach efforts, create outreach materials and be available for presentations or tabling events
-
Support fundraising, research potential grants, draft grant applications, outreach to potential sponsors, and provide client stories for funding appeals
-
Work with the FVCO team on legislative, policy, and advocacy needs
-
Attend committee meetings and internal FVCO meetings as needed
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree
-
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
-
Experience working with diverse populations
-
Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicaid waivers, CCBs, private health insurance policies, and other relevant services for children and youth with special healthcare needs (additional training will be provided as needed)

Critical thinking skills to help consumers navigate complex systems
-
Ability and willingness to advocate on behalf of clients
-
Takes initiative to find needed tasks and complete them
-
Well-organized and detail-oriented
-
Work well independently and as part of a team
-
Highly computer literate, and able to work in multiple databases
Preferred but not required

3 years of advocacy experience

Certified medical translator
-
Parent of a child, youth, or adult with special health care needs

Knowledge of the Health Insurance Privacy and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-related policies and procedures

Experience with SalesForce
-
Website design and/or business social media experience

The Bilingual Family Navigator will focus on extending these services to primarily Spanish speaking families in both a linguistically and culturally sensitive way. This may include translating documents and resources from English to Spanish, direct family assistance in Spanish, and working to reduce incidences of discrimination within the systems based on language barriers or cultural discrimination. Work as a cultural broker to reach at risk families in Colorado. The Executive Director and Family Navigators will meet at least every two weeks.
